The Birthday of a King

In a little village of Bethlehem,
There lay a Child one day
And the sky was bright with a holy light
o'er the place where Jesus lay.

Alleluia! O how the angels sang
Alleluia! How it rang!
And the sky was bright with a holy light
`Twas the birthday of a King.

`Twas a humble birthplace, but O how much,
God gave to us that day
From a manger bed, what a path was led
What a perfect, holy way.

Alleluia! O how the angels sang
Alleluia! How it rang!
And the sky was bright with a holy light
`Twas the birthday of a King.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree
that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world...
And everyone went to his own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Galilee to Judea,
to Bethlehem the town of David,
because he belonged to the house of David.
He went there to register with Mary,
who was pledged to be married to him
and was expecting a child.
